For more than two decades, the NWT Shelter Network has been united in their goal to end family violence.
With representatives from all the NWT’s family violence shelters, we gather regularly to share updates, brainstorm solutions to common challenges, and work together on joint projects and issues. If you have an issue or concern you’d like to bring to the network’s attention, contact us!
The work of the NWT Shelter Network is informed by our collective decades of experience on the frontlines. We are passionate about fostering a robust, compassionate service sector that addresses family violence in the Northwest Territories, so all self-identifying women and their children can get the support they need to live happy and empowered lives.
We respectfully acknowledge that our members are situated on the traditional territories of Dene, Inuvialuit, Métis and Cree peoples throughout the Northwest Territories. We are grateful to the Indigenous communities who have stewarded these lands for time immemorial, and for allowing us to live, work, and gather within their territory.
The NWT Shelter Network has received support from:

To date, some of our collective initiatives include:
-
Bolstering access and awareness of family violence crisis lines in the Northwest Territories
-
Developing training modules for family violence shelter workers across the three territories that are culturally-relevant and specific to the Northern context
-
Advocating for the Government of the Northwest Territories to sign a bilateral agreement with Women and Gender Equality Canada on the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence
